Bukit Timah Nature Reserve
Located in the center-west of Singapore is a hill called Bukit Timah, with an official height of 164 meters. This is the highest point in the country. Clinging to its slopes are Singapore's last vestiges of Primary Forest. For decades this forest has been protected as a Nature Reserve.Today, the Bukit Timah and Central Catchment nature reserves are home to more than 840 flowering plants and over 500 species of animals (including butterflies). With such an astonishing variety of plants, animals and insects life, it is little wonder that the nature reserves are more than just places for recreation. They are magnets for biodiversity research as well. Sad but true, no large native animals are left here because they were disturbed in the past. Anyway, long-tailed Macaques will greet you there and keen observers may find the Common Treeshrew, the Flying Lemur, and also Pangolin or Anteater if you are lucky enough.
